“ Hi Rosa! I’m interested in your cooking story, please do tell me more! ”

Bo-Dee from Watford

Hi Bo-Dee,

Thank you so much for your interest in my story! I started my journey with food when I was about 5-6 years old. Living in the countryside, children are always involved in picking herbs in the garden. Even though I wasn’t cooking, I was learning tips and tricks in the kitchen from my grandma, aunties and mom. When I turned 14, I decided to start my own noodles business. It was a simple cart on the street market, but people were lining up for my food. This was when I realised that I have to keep doing this! Saiphin and family on farm

When I moved to Hong Kong in the 80s, I stuck with what I know best and started working in a Thai supermarket whilst delivering food to order. My first restaurant was called Thida Thai; even though it was a 3-seater takeaway shop, it was a great success! After 20 odd years in Hong Kong, my husband and I moved to London for a fresh start. We ran a street stall near Brick Lane on Sundays, while running a catering business out of my kitchen. Around mid-2000s, Thai food was starting to become more well-known in the UK, and customers were queuing up to order our food. This was a good sign and when we found an English caf in Spitalfields that was up for grabs, we took a chance and opened our first Rosa’s Thai Cafe. And the rest is history…

I am so blessed to have the opportunity to turn my passion into a dream job. I’m really glad to have the love and support of our customers, many of whom have been a fan since our street stall days.

Thank You and don’t forget to say hi when you see me around Rosa’s!
